The committee’s changes to proposed Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 98 include restoring an objective to “preserve and support balanced control of the local feral/heritage sheep,” and removing an example naming the Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy from an advocacy policy. The committee gave the amended bylaw second reading and directed staff to schedule a public hearing for a date after the October business meeting.[1]
The committee first rescinded the bylaw’s second reading, then approved the sheep objective and changes to Advocacy Policy 2. A motion to remove the words “in particular feral sheep” from that policy was amended; the final change removed only the example referring to the conservancy.[1]
During the meeting’s public discussion, attendees raised concerns and suggestions about the OCP review, including the treatment of sheep, marine zoning and the draft’s wording. Staff said the committee could receive proposed glossary additions and asked for specific wording on suggested changes.[1]
Staff said a public hearing could be held with either of the next two business meetings. Trustees said they expected to make more amendments, and the committee voted to schedule the hearing after the October meeting.[1]
