Lasqueti trustees reject dock rezoning application
The committee voted to stop the application after defeating a first-reading motion for a bylaw that would permit an existing dock in Scottie Bay.

The Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee voted May 12 to proceed no further with a rezoning application concerning an existing dock in Scottie Bay, after a motion to give the proposed bylaw first reading was defeated.[1]
The draft bylaw would permit the dock in its present location and clarify that a dock allowed through General Permission could be outside a provincial License of Occupation; staff said the application was not supported by Official Community Plan policies or the Islands Trust Policy Statement.[1]
During discussion, trustees noted that first reading would trigger a Community Information Meeting, a public hearing and referrals to First Nations and other agencies, and that first reading would not determine the outcome.[1]
The minutes record differing views about the application, including comments that the Official Community Plan allows private docks and that the application lacked community and First Nations consultation at the appropriate time.[1] The applicant said a coastal biologist supervised work before and after construction and that a qualified professional report was included with the application.[1]
The committee also asked staff to report options and scope for a possible minor project on early engagement and consultation with First Nations to inform the Official Community Plan review.[1]
