Lasqueti trustees recommend refusal of Sea Egg Cove Crown lease
The Local Trust Committee cited consultation, emergency access, community benefit and environmental concerns in directing staff to respond to the province.

The Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee directed staff to recommend refusal of a Crown lease application for 77 marine sites proposed for overnight camping during guided kayaking adventures, including one site on Lasqueti Island. [1]
The committee cited no adjacent landowner consultation, no community consultation, inadequate evidence of First Nations consultation, expressed opposition by First Nations Leadership, fire risk, lack of road access for emergency responders and the local fire department, no identified community benefit, and impacts on sensitive ecosystem and critical nesting habitat for wildlife. The Regional Planning Manager said granting a Licence of Occupation, as well as public consultation, falls within provincial jurisdiction and that members of the public should provide comments directly to the referral agency. [1]
Staff also reported that the application was generally in line with the Trust Policy Statement and generally complied with the Land Use Bylaw, while noting that the application proposed camping and that its definition of camping complied with the bylaw. [1]
The committee directed staff to forward all public correspondence received to the province. [1]
