Lasqueti trustees end dock rezoning application

The Local Trust Committee voted against first reading of a bylaw that would permit an existing Scottie Bay dock and then voted to proceed no further with the application.[^1]

The proposed bylaw would have permitted the existing dock in its present location in Scottie Bay and clarified rules for docks allowed through General Permission.^[1] The Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee defeated a motion to give the bylaw first reading, then carried a motion to proceed no further with the rezoning application.^[1]

The minutes say the staff report found the application was not supported by Official Community Plan policies or the Islands Trust Policy Statement.^[1] Discussion included the need for community input and formal public processes, and differing views about the application’s policy fit and the dock’s environmental and social effects.^[1]

The applicant told the committee that a coastal biologist supervised work before and after installation, and that a qualified professional report was included with the application.^[1]

The committee also asked staff to report back with options and scope for a potential minor project on early engagement and consultation with First Nations to inform the Official Community Plan review.^[1]
