Lasqueti trustees advance Connected Coast bylaw to consultation
The Local Trust Committee gave first reading to a site-specific bylaw for the fibre-optic cable and requested referrals and a public hearing.

The bylaw would allow the fibre-optic cable only at locations proposed for the Connected Coast project; trustees gave it first reading, opening the way for public consultation and referrals.[1]
The minutes say the amended application shows the cable ending near the sea’s natural boundary, and no longer proposes an earthquake sensor or solar panels. The applicant said solar panels would be applied for and installed if the last-mile project proceeds.[1]
Trustees asked staff to refer the bylaw to First Nations, agencies and organizations for a 30-day period, and to schedule a public hearing.[1]
The committee also adopted a strategy for antenna systems that incorporates its standing resolution on First Nations engagement, and rescinded an earlier resolution on the subject.[1]
On public meeting conduct, trustees directed staff to enforce the meeting procedures bylaw to ensure a safe working and meeting space.[1]
