Lasqueti trustees adjourn after fibre-cable hearing is postponed
The Local Trust Committee recessed for a public hearing on a proposed bylaw for a Connected Coast fibre-optic cable, then adjourned without holding it because of time constraints.

The proposed bylaw would allow a fibre-optic cable to land on Lasqueti, but the Local Trust Committee did not hold its public hearing on February 10; after recessing for the hearing, trustees recalled the meeting and adjourned because of time constraints.[1]
At a community information meeting, the planner said the amendment would permit a site-specific use for fibre-optic cable and would not enable last-mile connections or utilities in other locations.[1]
The applicant said the Ministry of Transportation and Transit permit had been approved and the provincial government had offered Crown lease tenure; the applicant also said the funding for installation expires March 31, 2025.[1]
Trustee Peterson said the application came to Islands Trust very late in the process and that the Local Trust Committee had informed the applicant this was not a good way to proceed.[1] He also said the purpose of the public hearing was for the community to have its say before the committee considered the application.[1]
