The proposed bylaw would allow a fibre-optic cable to land on Lasqueti, but the Local Trust Committee adjourned its February 10 meeting before the public hearing could take place, citing time constraints.[1]

At a community information meeting earlier that day, the planner said the amendment would permit a fibre-optic cable public utility for the Connected Coast project and would not enable last-mile connections or utilities in other locations.[1]

The applicant said the Ministry of Transportation and Transit permit had been approved and the provincial government had offered Crown lease tenure.[1]

The applicant said the installation timeline was one day and that CityWest was responsible for cable maintenance and repairs.[1]

Trustee Peterson said the application came to Islands Trust late in the process and that the Local Trust Committee had told the applicant this was not a good way to proceed.[1]

The minutes record that the regular meeting was recessed at 2:45 p.m., recalled at 3:35 p.m. and adjourned at 3:35 p.m. due to time constraints.[1]
