The revised charter sets out a new work plan for Lasqueti’s Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review, and includes further engagement with Snaw-naw-as First Nation. The Local Trust Committee approved version 5.0 as amended on May 8.[1]
Trustees also directed staff to schedule a meeting with Snaw-naw-as First Nation to discuss proposed OCP Bylaw No. 98.[1]
The committee asked staff to remove the reference to 4.04 hectares from Phase 3 of the project charter. During discussion, a planner said the standard practice was to use metric measurements in the bylaw, while the exact 10 acres could be referenced in the charter.[1]
The minutes say the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development had objected to a proposed OCP advocacy policy concerning Crown lands, saying its language infringed on the ministry’s jurisdiction. A trustee said the ministry had not answered a request for further response; the committee’s recorded actions included asking staff to send First Nations an interim update on the OCP referral status.[1]
